Colleges in Fort Worth

Fort Worth, Texas, is the fifth-largest city in the state. Founded in 1849, the city began as an army outpost and now is populated by three quarters of a million people, a number of world-class museums, and several university communities.

Founded in 1873, Texas Christian University is the oldest institution of higher education in Fort Worth. The private, Christian-based university follows a classical liberal arts curriculum in its eight colleges and schools that offer degrees ranging from bachelor’s to doctoral. Associated with TCU is the Brite Divinity School, a seminary that offers several theological degrees. Another option is twenty minutes outside of Fort Worth: University of Texas in Arlington, a public research institution that serves more than 40,000 students.

Texas Wesleyan University, founded in 1890, is a private liberal arts institution associated with the United Methodist Church. Fort Worth also hosts the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, one of the largest seminaries in the world which offers bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees, primarily in theology.

Serving Tarrant County, which includes Fort Worth, is the Tarrant County College. Offering four types of associate degrees in 24 subject areas, TCC has five physical campuses and a distance learning option. When it comes to vocational or trade schools, Fort Worth has the Culinary School of Fort Worth with a Professional Culinary Program, as well as Epic Helicopters, which offers flight instruction in the region.

In the Cultural District, The University of North Texas Health Sciences Center is a graduate school with five colleges that offer a variety of degrees in health-related areas. The other graduate school in the city is the Texas A&M University School of Law, an ABA-accredited law school that confers Juris Doctor degrees, as well as two master’s degrees.

Automotive vehicles are the primary mode of transport around Fort Worth, although the city does maintain bus transportation and interurban train service. The city is served by the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport.
