Health Services Administration

To operate efficiently, a hospital needs an exceptional group of people working behind the scenes. It takes doctors, technicians, nurses, cleaning staff, engineers, volunteers, and many other people to guarantee patients have great experiences and outcomes. Someone who majored in health services administration is the person who manages these teams and hospital operations in general. Health sciences administrators need to be organized and ambitions. Their daily work includes supervising medical staff, hiring and firing personnel, attending safety and board meetings, and monitoring the hospital's financial situation. With such broad responsibilities, administrators need to be quick thinkers and able to adapt to changing situations. In college, you'll be taught some of the concepts you'll need to use daily on the job as a health services administrator, like health care law, managing personnel, and risk management. As you near the end of your studies, you'll have the opportunity to do an internship with a health care organization, where you can apply the theories you've learned in the classroom. Certification is not a requirement for most graduates, but individuals who wish to work in nursing homes should investigate the licensing requirements for their state. Individuals who chose to pursue doctorate positions usually go into research positions or teach at colleges.
